Christmas in Dubai

For Christmas this year I’ve flown out to Dubai to visit my parents.  They live here.  Here are a few photos I’ve taken:

Bill Murray Hair?

Posted by fdask in dreams on May 20th, 2009 |  No Comments »

So I still haven’t cut my hair into a mullet.  There’s still a chance I might, but lately I’ve been going for 80’s Bill Murray hair.  Now hopefully as you read that you know what I mean, because I’ve had a heck of time finding a suitable pic on Google Image Search.  Try these…

Scrooged Hairhair2

One from Scrooged, one from What about Bob.  From about 85 to 95, Bill Murray rocked some awesome hair.  Thinning up top, thick in the back… always looking like at one point you had a hair cut but you’ve let it go too long.  That’s what I’m going for.  :)

Mullets and Trucker Hats

I was shaving my head for about two years, then I suddenly stopped.  Now, it’s been awhile since my last hair cut and I’m thinking I may get a mullet for the summer!

Doesn’t that guy look cool!  My hair isn’t nearly that long yet… but almost to my shoulders at the back.

I figure along with the mullet, I’ll need a good mesh back hat.  Looking online I found a few places that let you design custom hats but after going through checkout, the price was about $45 for two!   We’re talking mesh hats here with a single color image on them.

On a quest to find somebody local in Toronto who can help me out….  stay tuned!

Poverty Food

I got a job now!  After a couple weeks hunting, and interviews with several great companies, I found something perfect.

Being unemployed for several weeks had a bit of a negative effect on my pantry.  Check it out.

No Name Mac + CheeseCorned Beef

LUNCHEON MEATLUNCHEON MEAT 2

Generic macaroni and cheese, corned beef, and LUNCHEON MEAT.  I ate half the can of this luncheon meat stuff last night, and let me tell you, pretty gross!  Ever bought really cheap hotdogs, and had those little crunchy bits inside?  Not big, but just enough bits of solid in there to make you gag and wonder whats going into it?  This is like a pure can of that.

My friend says I should try frying it up, so I might do that.  C’mooooooooon payday!

On the Hunt for a Job!

Posted by fdask in Ramble on February 26th, 2009 |  No Comments »

The company I had been working for suddenly went under at the end of January, leaving me in a position to be looking for a new job.  Not great timing considering the economy.

For years I’ve been using Craigslist almost exclusively for employment, so I went over there checking out my normal job boards.  It was surprising to see so many high caliber companies hiring still, in the middle (or beginning) of this recession!

I was able to land some interviews almost immediately!  Hurrah.

Last week I also decided to try out careerbuilder.ca, after seeing them talked about quite positively in a number of places.  What a joke.  Sure their interface is great, and the site works well, but all you really find there are headhunting agencies.  Bland generic posts, skills measured in years, etc. etc.

I spent enough time there to find a few jobs that looked interesting, only to click the apply button and be directed to some headhunting firms online application form.

I thought that’s why I use careerbuilder?  To avoid using all these little forms on the hundred or so firms sites.

Anyway, no job yet, but I’m extremely optimistic about my current situation!   If you know of anyone looking for someone with 5+ years of LAMP administration and development, let me know.

Cheers.

Some Quick Monday Morning Thoughts.

The superbowl was last night.  Did you watch it?  Turned out to be a great game!

I woke up this morning to a nightmare about spiders, and my radiator.  I think the spiders were coming from my radiator, and maybe one got up my pant leg.

I’ve been listening a lot to an old Def Leppard album, Hysteria.  Rocket is one of the best songs ever.  They might be touring this summer I heard.  I want to go.

It’s nice waking up and having some emails to respond to.  This morning I didn’t have any.

I should have got a haircut months ago but I keep growing it and maybe it’ll turn into a mullet.

I had fish for dinner last night and it made me think of my old cat.

Happy Monday!

Stupid Cars

We’ve had a pretty snowy winter so far this year in Toronto.  I hate it.

Here are two pics of the street right out in front of my house.

Street in front of my house 1Street in front of my house 2

As you can see, its really snowy, and right on the curb there where the cars park, its mainly ice.  This morning I was woken up by someone stuck in the snow here.  They were trying to get free, revving their engine over and over.  I hate noises like this.  Especially when I’m having a good dream or something!

Also the coffee I made this morning is pretty weak.  :(

Was it the Marshmallows?

Last night I had some really crazy dreams.

The last one I recall was sort of about a bank robbery.  I was with an old highschool friend, and most of his family.  We had just pulled off a large bank heist, and were hiding out in a small motel somewhere in the states.  I remember seven of us all cramming into this Oldsmobile he used to drive.

From there, the people I was with all faded away, and I was driving alone on the highway.  Or perhaps there was a girl with me.  I stopped to use a restroom, and a highway patrolman came by as I was about to relieve myself on the side of the road.  He directed me to the nearest washroom which was up at some sort of school through a field off in the distance.  So we made our way there.

I used the washroom.  There was a rave of some sort going on there, and my female companion somehow ended up in there with some kids who were out to get us.  They had dosed her on drugs, and she was lying under a table barely conscious.

Thinking about it now, the kids in the dream probably entered my subconscious through a movie I watched recently, Eden Lake.  If you’ve seen it, you know what I’m talking about.

As usually happens, this is the only fragment of the dream I remember.  My first dream of the night woke me up pretty suddenly around 1am.  This is when I got up, thought about cooking some food, but ate some marshmallows instead.  Maybe they were responsible for these crazy vivid dreams?
